In 2015, an estimated 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S. Testimonials by women in the breast cancer survivor community reveal that the physical, emotional, and psychological scars left behind are often more severe than the fight itself. Unfortunately for most patients, the current model of survivorship care is dictated by their health care coverage and is limited solely to medical appointments. B4BC seeks to address these needs with a program that promotes healing, enhances long-term survivorship and allows for all it serves to thrive!
The Solution Offered by Boarding For Breast Cancer
B4BC recognizes the growing need to support the breast cancer community, with over 3 million survivors in the U.S. alone. In 2009, B4BC established the B4BC Survivorship Fund to connect breast cancer survivors with nature-based wellness experiences that enhance their path of healing and long-term survivorship. With the debut of B4BC’s documentary, Chasing Sunshine, the Fund was rebranded as the Chasing Sunshine Project and now provides valuable content in addition to mountain and ocean retreats. With your support we can support breast cancer survivors and their healing process as we help send them on a retreat to have the time of their lives! To date, B4BC has provided grants to over 60 survivors to attend B4BC clinics and affiliate retreats rooted in mountain and ocean activities. Experiences have included surfing, snowboarding, skiing, yoga, meditation, life-skills coaching and nutrition classes, as well as modes of complementary care.
