The Problem

Many of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s founders were concerned about an alarming rise in youth suicide over the previous four decades. During this period, the suicide of young men had tripled while for young women it had doubled. Suicide is currently the third leading cause of death among young people age 15 to 24.

The Solution Offered by American Foundation For Suicide Prevention

AFSP’s programs for teens and young adults cover a variety of different topics that range from educating teens to recognize the signs and symptoms of depression in themselves and others, how suicide-related problems are commonly experience by college students, to providing information and guidance to schools that have been touched by the tragedy of a suicide. Your purchase at Sevenly this week will help fund AFSP’s “More Than Sad” program that provides education about factors that put youth at risk for suicide, in particular depression and other mental disorders.
