One of the things we get most excited about at Sevenly is sharing how your donation funds have been used by cause partners! The Some Good News folks choseWorld Central Kitchen as one of the charities you could donate to when you purchase Some Good Merch. Read on to hear what they have been doing to feed people in need during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ten years ago, José Andrés and his wife Patricia had a big dream to startWorld Central Kitchen (WCK). They envisioned an organization that would create smart solutions to hunger and poverty. Their vision became reality in the form of this outstanding non-profit.
WCK uses the power of food to heal communities and strengthen economies in times of crisis and beyond. They have created a new model for disaster response, helping devastated communities recover and establish resilient food systems. WCK has served more than 40 million fresh meals to people impacted by natural disasters and other crises around the world!
José Andrés says, “There is no place too far or disaster too great for our chefs to be there with a hot plate of food when it’s needed most,” and the funds donated from the Some Good Merch collection have helped the WCK team do just that.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, WCK has activated thousands of restaurants and kitchens to feed marginalized and vulnerable communities and our brave medical professionals on the front lines. Their Restaurants for the People program attacks the growing hunger and economic crises on two fronts by paying local restaurants to cook fresh meals for their neighbors in need—at the same time getting food to hungry people and keeping restaurants and their teams open and working. They know that a nourishing meal in a time of crisis is so much more than a plate of food—it's hope, it's dignity, it's a sign that someone cares about you and that you are not alone. WCK knows that when they work urgently to get fresh meals to people in need, they're sharing so much more than a meal, and that's why they do what they do.
World-Changers, your donations have helped José Andrés and the WCK team bring the inspiring words of John Steinbeck to life! “Wherever there’s a fight so hungry people may eat, we will be there.”
